Ferro silicon is divided into four categories according to smelting method: high silicon ferrosilicon (GG), ordinary ferrosilicon (PG), low aluminum ferrosilicon (DL) and high purity ferrosilicon (GC). High purity ferrosilicon refers to ferrosilicon with low impurity element content produced by outside furnace refining.

Ferrosilicon is not only used as deoxidizer in iron and steel smelting industry, but also as alloying element additive, widely used in low-alloy structural steel, spring steel, bearing steel, heat-resistant steel and electrical silicon steel. In addition, ferrosilicon is commonly used as reducing agent in ferroalloy production and chemical industry.

Ferro silicon alloy is an essential deoxidizer in steelmaking industry. Ferrosilicon is used for precipitation deoxidation and diffusion deoxidation in steel making. Adding a certain amount of silicon in steel can significantly improve the strength, hardness and elasticity of steel, improve the permeability of steel, and reduce the hysteresis loss of transformer steel. Silicon in general steel is 0.15%-0.35%, silicon in structural steel is 0.40%-1.75%, silicon in tool steel is 0.30%-1.80%, silicon in spring steel is 0.40%-2.80%, silicon in stainless acid-resistant steel is 3.40%-4.00%, silicon in heat-resistant steel is 1.00%-3.00%. Silicon steel contains 2 ~ 3% or more silicon.
